CMS Chief Donald Berwick Addresses EMR Regulations

Donald Berwick, MD, appointed chief of Medicare and Medicaid during last week’s Congressional recess and sworn in on July 12, briefed the press on electronic medical records on his first day of work, according to a report by The Boston Globe.

Dr. Berwick reminded the audience that the administration hopes to make EMR available to all Americans by 2014. Having worked with organizations that pioneered EMR use in their facilities, Dr. Berwick has extensive experience using electronic medical records.

Berwick ended his address by emphasizing the positive effect that healthcare technology will have on patient care, error reduction and overall quality.
