Athenahealth integrated CoverMyMed’s electronic prior authorization software into its athenaClinicals EHR. The CoverMyMed software automates the electronic prior authorization process for providers that fill prescriptions through the EHR, by allowing them to receive real-time determinations from partnered health plans.
Before implementing the integrated athenaClinicals software, it took nine days for providers to receive a prior authorization determination. Now, providers can receive the determination in an average of three days, according to athenahealth. The company also said administrative data entry time has been cut in half.
