The reductions, a rare move for Apple, were prompted by changes in the company’s business needs, people familiar with the matter told the news outlet. Bloomberg reported in July that Apple was slowing hiring.
“We believe in investing through the downturn,” CEO Tim Cook told analysts in a recent earnings call. “And so we’ll continue to hire people and invest in areas, but we are being more deliberate in doing so in recognition of the realities of the environment.”
Apple declined to comment to Bloomberg, but the news outlet reported the tech behemoth still has full-time recruiters and other recruiters left on contract.
