The app spits out user queries after combing through a database of 3.9 billion insurance claims from 188 million Americans since 2012. It removes all personal information from the claims data, enabling users to see precise characteristics about providers, such as how many of a certain type of surgery a physician has performed or whether a hospital has experience treating a rare condition.
Thus far, Amino is free for providers and consumers to use, but the company aims to leverage data from the app’s usage, which would be valuable for insurers and providers. This week the company reported nearly $20 million in backing from venture capital firms Accel Partners and CRV.
