Amazon taps former FDA official for healthcare team; Philips to lay off 65+ Ohio employees & more — 6 health IT key notes

Here are seven recent news updates on health IT companies.

1. Former FDA Chief Health Informatics Officer Taha Kass-Hout, MD, is reportedly joining Amazon's Grand Challenge team, a healthcare effort that has, internally, been referred to as 1492.

2. Amazon's secretive 1492 healthcare team is reportedly interested in developing technologies for aging populations.

3. Athenahealth recently added three applications — DocSpera, Healthicity and ObesityTx — to its "More Disruption Please" program.

4. IBM Research  released its annual "5 in 5" predictions, which forecast five scientific innovations the software company says will change the way people live within the next five years.

5. NantHealth released its full-year earnings results for 2017 on March 14. The company posted $86.7 million in total revenue and $2.6 million in revenue from sequencing and molecular analysis.

6. Cleveland-based Philips Medical Systems, part of Amsterdam-based Royal Philips, plans to lay off at least 65 employees April 20.
