Cleveland Clinic is partnering with San Francisco-based Piramidal to test the world’s first artificial intelligence model trained to read brainwaves.
The AI tool can scan a day’s worth of electroencephalogram data within seconds — a process that currently takes specialists hours — to help clinicians detect seizures, strokes or brain injuries sooner, according to an Aug. 10 news release.
The technology will launch in Cleveland Clinic’s neurological intensive care units as part of the health system’s $1 billion Neurological Institute. Physicians describe the software as an “AI co-pilot” that augments, rather than replaces, neurologists.
The rollout will include multiple phases of testing, validation and refinement, with a long-term goal of making the tool available in more general healthcare settings.
