Cleveland Clinic has partnered with CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society specializing in scientific content and knowledge management, to accelerate clinical research — with an initial focus on health, wellness and healthy aging.

The initial projects will center on drug discovery for brain health, particularly Alzheimer’s disease — a field where researchers say effective treatments have remained elusive due to the condition’s complexity.

The effort will use the CAS Content Collection, a curated scientific information resource, along with technologies such as AI and quantum computing, according to an April 7 news release. Cleveland Clinic houses IBM Quantum System One, the world’s first quantum computer dedicated to healthcare research, through its partnership with IBM.

The organizations plan to build and train disease-specific models with the goal of developing predictive and preventive strategies that could later be applied to other chronic diseases.

The partnership will also be supported by the Cleveland Innovation District — a collaborative effort among the state of Ohio, JobsOhio, and the city’s healthcare and academic institutions to drive job creation, advance research and train the future workforce.

The announcement was made during the Cleveland Discovery & Innovation Forum, an event highlighting advancements in healthcare and life sciences.
