Aetna to use EHRs to automate clinical authorization process

Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna tapped Stanson Health, a Sherman Oaks, Calif.-based clinical decision support and analytics company, to automate its clinical prior authorization process through EHR integration.

Stanson Health will automate the process by retrieving information from EHRs to inform approval of treatment based on medical necessity criteria. The cloud-based platform will assimilate the EHR data into Aetna's preauthorization process using tools like natural language processing.

More than 300 hospitals and healthcare providers use Stanson Health's platform.
