9 top-paying states, metro areas for medical records and health information technicians

Medical records and health information technicians earn a yearly wage of $40,430 on average in the United States, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In all, there are around 189,930 medical records and health information technicians in the country.

•    Alaska — $52,040
•    California — $48,590
•    Maryland — $47,930

•    San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, Calif.  — $62,270
•    Oakland-Hayward-Berkeley, Calif. — $58,830
•    San Francisco-Redwood City-South San Francisco, Calif. — $55,480
•    Silver Spring-Frederick-Rockville, Md. — $54,740
