4 things to know about IBM's security assistant research project, Havyn

Earlier this week, IBM unveiled a new platform to provide cognitive computing capabilities to security operations centers. As part of this rollout, IBM announced a new research project, code named Havyn.

Here are four things to know about the project.

  • Havyn, a voice-powered security assistant, will use Watson conversation technology to respond to verbal commands from security analysts. In particular, Havyn will draw from Watson application programming interfaces, BlueMix and IBM Cloud to respond to verbal requests.
  • The goal of Havyn is to create an artificial intelligence security assistant that can interact with security analysts in real time. Havyn will be able to access data from open source security intelligence and client-specific historic data to provide security insight and threat updates.
  • As an example, IBM noted that Havyn can provide security analysts with updates on new threats that have appeared and can recommend appropriate remediation steps.
  • Havyn is already being tested by select researchers and analysts within IBM Managed Security Services.
