8 Challenges Faced by Providers Using Cloud-Based Services

More than 80 percent of the 150 provider participants in the 2014 HIMSS Analytics Cloud Survey reported the use of at least one cloud-based service at their organization.

However, about two-thirds of respondents reported experiencing challenges with their current cloud provider. The most commonly reported challenges include:

  • Visibility into ongoing operations: 21 percent
  • Customer service: 20.2 percent
  • Costs and fees: 19.4 percent
  • Availability and uptime: 16.1 percent
  • Migration of services or data: 15.3 percent
  • Contractual issues, including business associate agreements: 5.7 percent
  • Data loss: 4.8 percent
  • Data breaches: 2.4 percent
