Since then, EHR adoption has increased dramatically. At the end of 2013:
- 59 percent of U.S. hospitals had at least a basic EHR system
- 94 percent of hospitals possessed certified EHR technology, an increase of 30 percent from 2011, when 72 percent of hospitals had a certified system.
- 89 percent of critical access hospitals used an EHR system, and 49 percent of CAHs planned to either install or upgrade their system within a year
- 92 percent of hospitals have received at least one payment under the EHR incentive programs
