5 top-ranked considerations for clinical technology purchasing decisions

When looking to invest in new technology, hospitals and health systems are most concerned with whether that system or technology will improve clinical performance, according to a study by Royal Philips.

The survey, conducted by HIMSS Analytics on behalf of Royal Philips, collected responses from 121 health IT leaders. Respondents were asked to rank the five most important considerations for clinical technology purchasing decisions.

The results follow:

  1. Drives measurable clinical improvements: 17 percent
  2. Is interoperable with EMR: 14 percent
  3. Supports standardization across the enterprise: 13 percent
  4. Drives measurable operational improvement: 13 percent
  5. Expands or enhances EMR functionality: 12 percent
