Here are five things to know about GE’s new healthcare-specific cloud ecosystem.
1. GE Healthcare plans to connect more than 500,000 imaging machines to its Health Cloud. Users will then be able to view 3-D images from multiple devices.
2. GE Health Cloud is open to third party, healthcare provider and academic institutions for app development. By being open to third parties, GE hopes to attract independent software vendors for app development.
3. “As the digital industrial leader, we are betting big on the GE Health Cloud. By connecting clinicians with the insights needed — when and where they need them — clinicians can take action to improve healthcare outcomes and delivery around the globe,” said GE CEO and Chairman Jeff Immelt.
4. Apps hosted on the GE Health Cloud will be available via subscription. The cloud’s app store will offer a multitude of new software solutions.
5. The GE Health Cloud will be HIPAA-compliant and include interoperability standards from FHIR, HL7 and DICOM.
