The report outlines three key benefits of interoperability. They are:
1. Lower costs. Based on interviews with different stakeholders who develop and deploy interoperable medical device solutions, PwC estimates that integration of an interoperable device into an mHealth solution or electronic medical record can save $40,000 to $50,000 in design costs.
2. Greater specialty and convenience. Interoperability allows telehealth providers and mobile operators to specialize in their core competency rather than forcing them to build out entire end-to-end solutions.
3. Increased confidence among patients and regulators. Interoperability ensures greater data accuracy, which in turn raises the confidence of both physicians and patients.
These three benefits of interoperability will encourage providers to adopt mHealth applications and devices, according to the report.
