23andMe releases patient data to Pfizer for studies

Genomics company 23andMe has announced a collaboration with pharmaceutical giant Pfizer in which Pfizer will have access to 23andMe’s research platform, including the genotyped population of more than 800,000 individuals.

23andMe’s research portal allows qualified scientists outside of the 23andMe community to access the data and research while protecting the privacy of 23andMe’s customers.

The agreement includes collaboration between the two companies on certain genome-wide association studies and clinical trial recruitment. One such study will focus on better understanding the genetics of lupus.
