WMMC began experiencing trouble with its billing system after the hospital implemented Cerner’s patient-financing system, President and CEO Darinda Reberry told the publication. She said WMMC received frequent complaints about the readability of its bills.
To address the issue, WMMC contracted with AmeriEBO in December to create an online payment option for patients. The vendor collects insurer payment information and sends a consumer-friendly version of the bill back to the patient. AmeriEBO automatically uploads patients’ payments to online accounts, which hospital staff previously had to complete manually, according to the report.
As part of the contract, AmeriEBO will collect a percentage of the patient payments as compensation. Ms. Reberry said the hospital’s billing staff will be unaffected by the transition because of recent high patient volumes, the report states.
The hospital projects the system will go live by April 30.
