WellPoint reported total revenues of about $18 billion in the third quarter of 2013, up 17 percent from $15.4 billion in the same quarter last year. However, total expenses also increased 19.3 percent from $14.3 billion in the third quarter of 2012 to $17 billion this year.
For the nine months ended Sept. 30, WellPoint reported a net income of $2.3 billion, up 6.9 percent from about $2.2 billion in the first nine months of 2012. Total revenues increased by 15.8 percent, from about $46.2 billion in the first nine months of 2012 to $53.5 billion this year.
