FBT Architects of Albuquerque and HDR Inc., will submit a development proposal to UNMH within the next six months, according to the article.

The new 850,000-square-foot facility will replace outdated wings of UNMH built in 1954, 1966 and 1976 that are not suitable for renovation. With added capacity, the new hospital will also reduce wait times for emergency room patients, manage expected growth in the state’s senior population and expand UNMH’s inpatient capabilities.

UNMH officials anticipate construction to begin in late 2017 or early 2018, and to be completed by 2021.
