A federal government audit found Florida safety net hospitals were paid an excess of $267 million in Medicaid funds for medical services for low-income individuals over the past eight years and is now seeking to recover the funds this year.

Although UF Health does not believe its hospitals in Jacksonville and Gainesville received any excess funding, the health system may be asked to refund more than $30 million it received from Medicaid throughout the audit period, according to the report.
