The expanded cancer center — slated for completion in September 2015 — will more than triple the size of the current cancer treatment center and will expand the hospital’s overall capacity by roughly 50 percent.
To provide better care for cancer patient, the new treatment center will include 15 private treatment areas, four private rooms and an open infusion center designed to be a more social setting for patients. Physicians, nurses and other hospital staff members provided input for the design of the project, according to the report.
The oncology center it just one part of a $4.6-million expansion plan that also includes expanding Salem Regional’s orthopedic services and outpatient procedure and pain center. A community capital campaign has already raised $1.1 million for the project.
