Warren, Ohio-based Insight Hospital and Medical Center Trumbull’s agreement with Medicare has still not been restored following its Oct. 10 termination, a spokesperson for both the hospital and CMS confirmed to Becker’s.
Flint, Mich.-based Insight Health System purchased the Trumbull hospital and its sister facility, Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, also in Warren, in November 2024 from Dallas-based Steward Health Care.
In late September, a CMS Medicare notice cited multiple Medicare Conditions of Participation violations, including issues with the governing body, patient rights, basis and scope and discharge planning. CMS also said the hospital failed to meet two of its Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act requirements.
“In the reopening process, Insight was trying to meet multiple regulatory timelines that were not in alignment,” the Insight spokesperson said. “Insight immediately appealed the CMS termination because the hospital believed it was in compliance. We are seeking to resolve the matter through every available avenue.”
The Trumbull facility reopened Oct. 14 after Insight paused operations at the facility and Hillside Rehabilitation in late March due to financial and ongoing bankruptcy challenges that stemmed from Steward. Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital is still in the process of reopening.
