RCM tip of the day: Keep teams on the same page with a collaborative newsletter

Consider using a newsletter to keep revenue cycle management staff members up-to-date.

Tamarah Alexander, Senior Healthcare Consultant, Hayes Management Consulting: Consider publishing a collaborative newsletter for your billing and IT end users to keep everyone on the same page. Often times, technology and billing changes occur that affect both, but are not communicated equally or consistently.

Newsletters can be arranged in order to address specific audiences based on the work. For example, the revenue cycle team can have a “Coding Corner” with a featured article discussing ICD-10 changes, while the registration team may want a section that discusses new coverage based on the Affordable Health Care Act. For major changes, such as a systems upgrade, feature an article highlighting the upcoming changes and how they will impact workflow. Showcase the hard work your teams are doing as a morale booster.
