RCM tip of the day: Establish a strong strategy for self-pay collections

As healthcare continues to change, providers should ensure they have a well-built self-pay collection strategy in place, according to Shawn Yates, director of healthcare product management at Ontario Systems.

Mr. Yates shared the following tip with Becker's Hospital Review.

"High-deductible health plans and the number of uninsured will grow in 2018, putting more pressure on providers to collect from patients. Developing a solid segmentation strategy that looks for missing insurance, identifies financial assistance/charity and tiers accounts into the appropriate activity group will be key. This will maximize resource activity and provide the best return for providers."
