The move makes Maine the first state to approve Medicaid expansion via referendum.
Maine Equal Justice Partners, a liberal advocacy group, put the issue on the November ballot after Republican Gov. Paul LePage vetoed multiple legislative attempts to expand coverage to more low-income residents.
With the vote, the state estimates about 80,000 Mainers will be able to gain Medicaid coverage, according to the report.
Maine joins the 31 other states, plus Washington, D.C., that have approved Medicaid expansion.
