Kaleida Health receives $17M grant to save two cash-strapped hospitals

The state of New York granted $17 million in funding to Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health to help save two financially strained hospitals, according to Buffalo News.

The grant was awarded to help finalize the integration of Irving, N.Y.-based Lake Shore Hospital and Dunkirk, N.Y.-based Brooks Memorial Hospital into Kaleida Health. After seeing continuous declines in financial performance, the two hospitals affiliated with Kaleida Health last year.

"Approximately $101 million in state dollars has been allocated over the past few years to help fund the integration of both Brooks and Lake Shore hospitals into Kaleida," New York Sen. Catharine M. Young told Buffalo News. "This $17 million is the final piece to make sure the project happened."

The $17 million will also help fund a new facility to replace the current Brooks Memorial Hospital.
