Hospital Leaders Ask Congress to Avoid Further Funding Cuts in 2014

More than 150 hospital leaders gathered in Washington, D.C., Tuesday to ask Congress to not include any funding cuts that would hurt hospital patients in a spending bill for fiscal year 2014, according to an AHA News report.

Hospitals already face substantial cuts and have done their share to address financial challenges, AHA President and CEO Rich Umbdenstock told Congress, according to the report. Mr. Umbdenstock said Congress needs to identify other sources of revenue.

Federal lawmakers are currently working to pass a spending bill before Oct. 1 to prevent a government shutdown. However, debate over the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act has stalled the process, with conservative lawmakers demanding that any spending bill include a provision to defund the healthcare reform law. President Obama has said he will reject any legislation that defunds or delays the PPACA.
