Several members of the Greater New York Hospital Association, had records in the warehouse, but a spokesman did not identify the particular hospitals.
The fire’s cause is still unknown, but marshals were investigating whether it was an accident or sparked deliberately. The fire has raised scrutiny on whether New York City is digitizing its records quickly enough; the New York City Police Department lost two warehouses full of records and evidence during Hurricane Sandy in October 2012, according to the New York Times.
Recall, the storage facility, issued a statement Feb. 1 regarding the fire. The company said the building and all its contents appear to be “a total loss” but that it is too early to determine a cause.
“Recall is communicating directly with all customers that are impacted by the event, and the company is working to confirm the status of assets stored in the information center,” the statement said.
