Specifically, the department has asked state budget officials for $42 million in additional funding. The $42 million would include $13.3 million for Medicaid, which currently covers more than one-fifth of the state’s population, as well as $4.7 million in additional funding for developmental disabilities programs, $2.8 million to support growth in child care programs, and $2 million more for substance abuse programs, according to the report.
The request for additional Medicaid funding comes as the future of the ACA is unclear. Medical officials warn that if the ACA is repealed under President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, it would significantly impact Delaware’s Medicaid program, with a possible cost shift to the state of more than $100 million annually, according to the report.
