All five health insurers experienced a year-over-year increase in their second-quarter profits.
1. Second-quarter net earnings at health insurer UnitedHealth Group increased by nearly 8 percent compared to the second quarter of 2012, with the insurer netting $1.44 billion in profit from $30.4 billion in revenue.
2. WellPoint reported a 24.3 percent increase in second-quarter profits, with a net income of $800.1 million from total quarterly revenues of $17.8 billion.
3. Aetna saw its second-quarter net income go up 17 percent relative to the second quarter of 2012, netting $536 million in profit from $11.5 billion in quarterly revenue.
4. Humana reported a net income of $420 million for the second quarter from $10.3 billion in revenues, an 18 percent increase relative to the second quarter of 2012.
5. Cigna‘s profits shot up 33 percent compared to the second quarter of 2012, with $505 million in net income from nearly $8 billion in total quarterly revenues.
