The health system said effective July 1, all MedAssets revenue cycle employees will return as Barnabas employees, and Barnabas will manage its revenue cycle on its own. The transition, which will not affect other Barnabas employees, is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Barnabas had outsourced its revenue cycle to MedAssets in 2009 and called the partnership “successful,” saying the firm helped Barnabas collect more than $10.2 billion in net patient revenue since then, while boosting cash on hand. Barnabas will still partner with MedAssets on other financial areas, such as denials management.

“Barnabas Health is now well-positioned to manage and control business office service capabilities within our own organization rather than using a third party,” said Jay Picerno, CFO and COO of Barnabas.
