Aurora Health Care to raise rates in 2017

Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care will raise its hospital prices by 4.5 percent in 2017, according to the Milwaukee Business Journal.

That increase is slightly less than the 4.9 percent rate hike the system implemented each of the past two years, according to the report.

Aurora CFO Gail Hanson told the Milwaukee Business Journal the price increase will help offset the high levels of uncompensated care, charity care and bad debt the system faces.

"This modest increase will help us continue to provide high-quality, cost-efficient healthcare to people in eastern Wisconsin," Ms. Hanson told the Milwaukee Business Journal.

Aurora is not the only system in Wisconsin raising rates next year. Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic Health System will increase prices at its hospitals in northwest Wisconsin by 4 percent in 2017.
