5 recent grants, donations to healthcare organizations

Numerous healthcare organizations recently received donations to fund research, advance treatments, improve patient care and start renovations.

Here are five recent donations, grants or bequests given to healthcare organizations by various entities reported by Becker's Hospital Review in the past two weeks, beginning with the most recent.

1. Tidelands Health receives $10M gift toward expansion, names surgery pavilion after donors
Georgetown, S.C.-based Tidelands Health received a $10 million donation from the Yawkey Foundation to support an ongoing expansion project at the health system's main campus. 

2. Mayo Clinic Jacksonville to name building after donors who gifted $20M
Mayo Clinic Jacksonville (Fla.) will name a new cancer and neurology facility in honor of Harry Mangurian and his wife, Dorothy, whose foundation donated $20 million to support expansion projects at the hospital. 

3. Albany Medical Center receives $10k gift from James Taylor, wife
Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center received $10,000 Monday from singer-songwriter James Taylor and his wife, Kim Hessberg Taylor, after a concert meant to benefit the hospital was cancelled.

4. Brigham and Women's Hospital, Children's Hospital of Boston each receive $50M pledge
Robert Hale Jr., CEO of Granite Telecommunications, and his wife, Karen, pledged $100 million to two Boston hospitals — $50 million to Children's Hospital of Boston and $50 million to Brigham and Women's Hospital — to enhance patient care. 

5. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital receives $15M to support physician recruitment
Los Angeles-based Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital received two pledges totaling $15 million from the Weingart Foundation and Ballmer Group to help mitigate physician shortages.
