$4.8M gift to bolster campus improvements at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland

St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, Mich., received a $4.8 million gift from the late Russell J. Ebeid.

The hospital plans to use the gift to support campus redevelopment, including improvements to the emergency and labor and delivery departments.

Mr. Ebeid, who passed away July 30, 2017, at the age of 77, received care at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland. He was a longtime chairman and president of Guardian Industries, a privately held industrial manufacturer of glass, automotive and building products.

The hospital unveiled a portrait of Mr. Ebeid, and Mr. Ebeid's family recognized the two physicians who played key roles in his care — James Heinsimer, MD, and Diego Hernandez, MD — with plaques.
