Numerous healthcare organizations received donations to fund research, advance treatments, improve patient care and start renovations in August.

Here are 17 recent donations, grants or gifts given to healthcare organizations by various entities in the past month, beginning with the most recent.

1. Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, Entravision raise $3.2M for member hospitals during charity event
Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, a charity that raises funds for 170 member hospitals across the nation, and Entravision Communications, a media company, raised $3.2 million for member hospitals during a charity event earlier this month.

2. Lurie Children's Hospital receives $3.5M from Chicago Cubs first baseman
Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago received a $3.5 million gift from Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo.

3. LSU Health New Orleans receives $10M NIH grant to advance research on virus-induced cancers
The National Institutes of General Medical Sciences, one of the National Institutes of Health, has given a $10 million grant to LSU Health New Orleans to advance research on the treatment and diagnostic tools for virus-induced cancers.

4. Studer Family Children's Hospital receives $500k from Bubba Watson
Pensacola, Fla.-based Studer Family Children's Hospital at Sacred Heart received a $500,000 donation from professional golfer Bubba Watson.

5. University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital receives $1M gift from Hawkeye coach
Iowa City-based University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital received a $1 million donation from University of Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz and his wife Mary Frentez to support neonatal research.

6. 5 health organizations receive grants from UnitedHealthcare to improve access to rural healthcare
Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealthcare awarded $234,000 in grants to five health organizations in Kansas to improve access to rural healthcare.

7.Shriners Hospital for Children receives $30k in donations
Springfield, Mass.-based Shriners Hospital for Children received $30,000 from Dunkin' Donuts to support enhancements at the hospital.

8. Sanford Health receives $11.3M NIH grant to advance population health research
Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health's Population Health Group received an $11.3 million grant from the NIH to study health outcomes and disparities in American Indian communities.

9. NIH awards UW-La Crosse researcher $338k to study blood clot prevention
A University of Wisconsin-La Crosse researcher, Scott Cooper, PhD, received a $338,000 grant to advance his research on the prevention of blood clots to help stop heart attacks and strokes.

10. UAB School of Medicine, University of Mississippi receive $10M NIH grant
NIH awarded $10 million to University of Alabama at Birmingham and Oxford-based University of Mississippi in collaboration with HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, a nonprofit research organization, to advance genome sequencing research. 

11. CDC awards LSU Health New Orleans $15M grant for cancer prevention
LSU Health New Orleans School of Public Health received a $15 million grant from the CDC to help reduce cancer in the state of Louisiana. 

12.NIH awards $2.47M grant to University of Maryland medical school for E. Coli vaccine development
Baltimore-based University of Maryland School of Medicine received $2.47 million from the NIH to develop a vaccine against Shigella and enterotoxigenic E. coli, which is a leading cause of diarrheal disease in young children in developing countries.

13. 17 New Jersey Hospitals collectively secure $36.5M in funding thanks to legislative effort
Following legislative efforts to successfully expand CMS' "rural floor policy" this year, 17 New Jersey hospitals will benefit from a $36.5 million boost in federal funding to pay physicians and providers for treating Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.

Honolulu-based University of Hawaii's John A. Burns School of Medicine will establish a diabetes research center thanks to an $11.5 million grant from NIH.

Chico, Calif.-based Enloe Medical Center reached 60 percent of its fundraising goal after receiving $846,000 from the Wilson Charitable Remainder Trust.

Danbury (Conn.) Hospital will transform its existing cardiac operating room into a multifunctional cardiovascular surgical suite after a donation from former patient Yoriko McClure.

17. Children's Hospital Los Angeles receives $3M pledge to create endowed position
Children's Hospital Los Angeles received a $3 million pledge from Teri and Byron Pollitt to help establish an endowed chair position for the hospital's Fetal and Neonatal Institute.
