$154M in Sandy relief to go to South Nassau Communities Hospital

South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, N.Y., will get $154 million in Hurricane Sandy relief, an amount based on damage that Long Beach (N.Y.) Medical Center incurred due to the superstorm, according to a Newsday report.

The funding is coming from FEMA. South Nassau President and CEO Richard Murphy told Newsday that all of the money does not have to be spent in Long Beach. South Nassau could also "fund other services on the South Shore," the report reads.

South Nassau plans to open a freestanding emergency room in Long Beach, according to the report, and Mr. Murphy told Newsday that he hopes to release more of the plan for the Long Beach property, which is about 5 acres, in May. Mr. Murphy has mentioned other options such as assisted living, geriatric or primary care.
