There are more than 630 rural hospitals at risk of closure across the U.S., according to the Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform.

Around 200 of those hospitals are at immediate risk of closure, limiting the access to care for rural communities. Below are 10 states with the most hospitals at risk of closure, based on data gathered as of October 2022.

1. Texas: 76 hospitals
2. Kansas: 55 hospitals
3. Mississippi: 38 hospitals
4. Oklahoma: 33 hospitals
5. Alabama: 29 hospitals
6. Arkansas: 22 hospitals
7. Iowa: 22 hospitals
8. Georgia: 21 hospitals
9. New York: 21 hospitals
10. Tennessee: 21 hospitals
