Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital broke ground April 4 on its 350,000-square-foot Venice, Fla., hospital, according to the Herald-Tribune.
The hospital will initially feature 110 beds, though hospital leaders said they hope it will one day grow to 270 beds.
"The new hospital will also provide South County residents a more cost-effective option for care, as our charges are well below other hospitals in Sarasota County, according to state data," said David Verinder, president and CEO of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System. "Most importantly, the new hospital will have specialists and advanced technology to provide immediate lifesaving care to residents here, whether they’re suffering from a heart attack or stroke, or if they need specialized care for orthopedic injuries or other illnesses."
Construction is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2021.
