Hurricane damage forces Florida hospital to rebuild

Fishermen's Community Hospital in Marathon, Fla., hasn't reopened since sustaining significant damage during Hurricane Irma in September, and it's unclear how long the hospital will remain closed, according to the Miami Herald.

The hospital opened a temporary tent hospital Sept. 26, but it will have to be moved to allow Fishermen's Community Hospital to be rebuilt. Hospital CEO Rick Freeburg said at a recent Greater Marathon Chamber of Commerce luncheon that the rebuilding process could take two years, according to the report.

The temporary tent hospital offers X-ray imaging and care for strokes and heart attacks, but patients with more serious conditions are taken to other local hospitals.
