An appeal related to a certificate of need application for Greensboro, N.C.-based Cone Health’s planned hospital has been dismissed.
Six things to know:
1. The system can move forward with planning and development of its $250 million Cone Health Mebane (N.C.) Hospital, according to an Aug. 11 health system news release.
2. The system expects to receive its certificate of need in the coming days, the release said. The facility is slated to open by early 2030.
3. Plans include 46 acute care beds, 15 emergency department bays, three general operating rooms, one C-section operating room, two procedure rooms, three obstetric labor, delivery, recovery beds and seven observation beds.
4. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services received the certificate of need application for the $250,349,000 hospital on April 15, 2025, according to the application log.
5. The department approved Cone Health’s certificate of need in September. Its application won over competing proposals from Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health and Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Health System, which were also seeking approval for a new hospital in Mebane.
6. The appeal was filed by Duke, Novant and their joint legal entity, Alamance Health Co., a Cone Health spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s. It was dismissed Aug. 7.
