HCA Florida Healthcare — part of Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare — and the city of Cape Coral (Florida) have announced plans to build a new full-service hospital in the city.
Four things to know:
1. The project will convert the site of the existing HCA Florida Cape Coral Emergency freestanding ER into a three-story, roughly 200,000-square-foot hospital with inpatient and outpatient services, according to an Aug. 14 news release shared with Becker’s. The new hospital will be called HCA Florida Cape Coral Hospital.
2. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with an opening planned for 2029. The estimated $300 million investment will become the 19th hospital in HCA Healthcare’s West Florida Division once complete.
3. Phase one is expected to include up to 100 acute care beds, an emergency department, operating rooms and a cardiac catheterization lab, with room to expand as demand grows, according to the release. Planned services include emergency care, surgical services, cardiovascular care, inpatient care, outpatient services and imaging.
4. Jyric Sims, PhD, president of HCA Healthcare West Florida Division, said the construction of the hospital is an important step in the system’s broader strategy to expand access to care in Lee County. Dr. Sims cited HCA’s acquisition of HCA Florida Lehigh Hospital, the opening of HCA Florida West Fort Myers Emergency and the construction of HCA Florida Alico Emergency, slated to open in late 2026, as part of a broader network buildout in the region.
