The expansion project includes a $40 million children’s outpatient hospital at Erlanger’s main hospital campus in Chattanooga and $16 million Heart and Lung Institute on the revamped fourth floor of Erlanger’s Baroness Hospital in Chattanooga. Erlanger also partnered with Franklin, Tenn.-based Acadia HealthCare, a network of behavioral health facilities, to construct a $25 million, 88-bed psychiatric hospital a few miles from the main Chattanooga campus. The fourth construction project includes an $18 million, 80,000-square-foot medical office building near Chattanooga-based Erlanger East Hospital.
“Erlanger’s four concurrent construction projects represent a major financial investment in this community, with an economic impact of well over $100 million,” Kevin Spiegel, Erlanger Health System’s CEO, told the Chattanooga Times Free Press. “But more importantly, each of these facilities will dramatically change the face of health care in this community for years to come
In addition to its $100 million capital investment, hospital planners are eying a bigger project — up to $1.5 billion of facility expansions and renovations across Erlanger’s sites.
“If everything happens that we think is going to happen, there is $1.5 billion of future investment in this part of the city going to happen over the next 10 years,” Bruce Komiske, Erlanger’s vice president of new hospital design and construction, told the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
