The new facility, which will be located on the campus of Longwood Medical and Academic Area in Boston, will have private patient rooms, operating rooms and imaging suites. In addition, the facility would have a landing pad for helicopters.
Hospital officials said they expect to file more detailed plans next month. They did not reveal how much the expansion would cost or when the facility would open.
“After detailed assessments of our existing space and the evolving clinical needs of our patients, we are proposing a new inpatient building on our West Campus,” Jennifer Kritz, a spokeswoman for Beth Israel Deaconess, told The Boston Globe.
The project would still need approval from the Boston Planning and Development Agency as well as the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
