The new facility, which is expected to serve more than 12,000 people in its first year, will also serve as the administrative headquarters for Planned Parenthood for Metropolitan Washington.
“There was a tremendous unmet need,” said Laura Meyers, president of Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, according to the report. “With almost no advertising, patients are finding us.”
The recently opened clinic replaces an outdated facility in downtown D.C. that closed in June 2015 after more than 40 years of operation. Another Planned Parenthood, in Southeast Washington, closed in 2014.
Until regaining a permanent residence this week, Planned Parenthood held weekly clinics at Bread for the City, a nonprofit organization in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C., according to the report.
