D.C. hospital evacuated after report of threat to staffer

A man's threat to an employee at Washington, D.C.,-based MedStar Washington Hospital triggered an evacuation and fears of an active shooter, according to The Washington Post.

Authorities received a report of an active shooter about 10:19 a.m. on July 19, but before noon police had determined the threat was verbal and there was no danger. Staff members returned to work.

Before officials determined it was safe, some buildings on the campus were evacuated, and patients who had appointments were turned away, according to NBC Washington.

A spokesperson for MedStar Washington told The Post the hospital had "resumed normal operations following reports of an individual entering our cancer center who made verbal threats to hurt one of our staff members."

No weapon was seen, and no one was hurt.

D.C. police are looking for the man accused of making the threats.
