Christus Mother Frances breaks ground on $100M tower expansion

Tyler, Texas-based Christus Trinity Mother Frances Health System began construction on an expansion project at Christus Mother Frances Hospital-Tyler to significantly increase the system's emergency and intensive care capacities.

The $100 million construction includes a 200,000-square-foot tower on the south side of Christus Mother Frances Hospital-Tyler, Tyler Morning Telegraph reports. The six-level tower will feature an emergency care center, two 24-bed intensive care units and several support services like two helipads. All together, the space will expand the capabilities of the hospital's current emergency department, which serves double the number of patients it was designed to admit.

Room for future growth will be built into the complex. In addition, a skywalk will connect the tower with an 850-space parking garage.

Officials expect construction of the parking garage to reach completion by the end of this year. The tower is anticipated to be complete by fall 2019.
