California hospital incurs fire damage due to damaged boiler

A contained boiler room fire at Sonoma West Medical Center, a 25-bed hospital in Sebastopol, Calif., awoke staff and patients early Tuesday morning, according to a Sonoma West Times and News report.

A burst valve in the boiler room caused a fire to the electric panels adjacent to the boiler. The Sebastopol Fire Department responded and quickly extinguished the fire, said John Peleuses, CEO of Sonoma West Medical Center.

No patients or staff members were injured in the fire. Two patients were moved from the intensive care unit to the emergency department, Mr. Peleuses said.

The hospital does not yet have an estimate for the cost of required repairs to the damaged boiler and electric panels, Mr. Peleuses added.
