Banner Health has $1.7B worth of construction projects in the works

Phoenix-based Banner Health has 386 active construction projects across its markets, totaling $1.7 billion, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.

Banner operates in six states, but the majority of the health system's active projects are in Arizona. Since many of the projects are ongoing and will take multiple years to complete, not all of the $1.7 billion will be spent in this calendar year. For example, much of the $1.4 billion in active construction projects in Arizona are part of major projects that began in 2015 and 2016 at two of Banner's hospitals in Phoenix and Tucson, according to the report.

Kip Edwards, vice president of facilities services at Banner, told the Phoenix Business Journal he expects Banner to continue the same building pace into 2019.

"We continue to look for communities that Banner can serve. We've identified some that we feel we can serve better by adding facilities," said Mr. Edwards. "We're looking at some things in the Arizona markets and some opportunities to expand in the Colorado markets."
