7 hospitals planning facility upgrades, expansions

The following hospitals announced or completed plans in the last week to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities. 

1. Sarasota Memorial Hospital's latest expansion plan: A $220M cancer center
A $220 million cancer treatment center is the latest improvement scheduled at Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital. 

2. Planning board OKs Maine Medical Center's $512M expansion plan
The Portland (Maine) Planning Board unanimously approved Maine Medical Center's $512 million expansion project March 27.

3. Evangelical Community Hospital plans $72M renovation, expansion
Lewisburg, Pa.-based Evangelical Community Hospital is planning a $72 million expansion and renovation project, dubbed PRIME, to provide patients with individual rooms.

4. Nantucket Cottage Hospital to construct $89M replacement facility
Nantucket (Mass.) Cottage Hospital, part of Boston-based Partners Healthcare, will construct an $89 million replacement facility.

5. Geisinger, St. Luke's University Health partner to construct 80-bed hospital
Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger and Bethlehem, Pa.-based St. Luke's University Health Network will build a new 80-bed acute care hospital in Orwigsburg, Pa. — marking the first time in Pennsylvania's history two healthcare systems agreed to build and co-own a hospital.

6. Central Maine Healthcare to convert Best Buy into outpatient center
Lewiston-based Central Maine Healthcare unveiled plans March 22 to open an outpatient health center on the site of a former Best Buy store.

7. New rehab hospital to replace St. Joseph Medical Center's rehab department, affecting 71 employees
CHI Franciscan Health's plans to close the rehabilitation department at Tacoma, Wash.-based St. Joseph Medical Center and build a new freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital in the community will affect 71 employees.
