Evangelical Community Hospital plans $72M renovation, expansion

Lewisburg, Pa.-based Evangelical Community Hospital is planning a $72 million expansion and renovation project, dubbed PRIME, to provide patients with individual rooms, reports The Daily Item.

The project, which was approved unanimously by the hospital's board, will add four stories and 112,000 square feet to the main hospital. In addition, the project will include the renovation of 20,000 square feet of existing space.

After the project is completed, the hospital will include a general medical surgical unit with 28 beds, an orthopedic unit with 24 beds, a new lobby, a gift shop and a conference center. In addition, the hospital's intensive care unit will be remodeled. Overall, PRIME is expected to add more space for patient comfort.

"While the healthcare landscape is in a constant state of change, what remains at the center of Evangelical's focus is the ability to provide high quality care to those who have entrusted us with their health," Evangelical CEO and President Kendra Aucker told The Daily Item. "PRIME will help us do that in a physical environment that facilitates and encourages healing and matches the compassion and quality care the community has come to expect from us."

Construction is expected to begin in summer 2018. It is expected to be completed in three years.
